What This Is

A Structural Interior System, Not a Panel Kit

Most ProMaster interior kits are a stack of raw, unfinished panels with no mounting holes drilled. Building the structure that holds a bed, a galley, or a loaded upper cabinet is left entirely to you.

Inertia solves this problem with a complete, integrated system that covers the walls and ceiling as one engineered assembly: a machined steel skeleton indexed to the ProMaster's factory chassis points, rot-proof furring and Formica-laminated panels, and GoCode trim to finish the complex curved sections of the van.

The ProMaster Interior System provides the structural framing, the walls, and the ceiling, and it is the base that the rest of the build attaches to.

Where we are: The first build has been installed and is in the field. The production version is being installed in our show van this month, and will be ready for commercial production in August.

The System

Three Layers, One Assembly

The system is built in three layers. The framing carries the load, the panels finish the interior, and the trim closes the edges. The framing is the structural core of the system.

The Framing
Precision-cut G90 galvanized steel, indexed to the ProMaster's factory chassis points and riveted to the body in six to fourteen places per bracket, so the load is distributed across the whole structure rather than concentrated on a few fasteners. A bed, galley, or upper cabinet bolts directly to this steel framing or directly to the van chassis. Along the lower walls, rot-proof expanded-PVC furring mounts to the body. Together with the steel brackets, it brings the panels into line with the van's natural body curvature, established at the front B-pillar edge of the cabin.
The Panels
CNC-machined 1/4" Formica-laminated Baltic birch, cut to fit precisely against the trim. Formica wipes clean and resists staining, fraying, and tearing where fabric does not, and it comes in a wide range of colors and finishes.
The Trim
GoCode trim and corner rails provide the finished edge. The panels are cut to meet them, tying the panels and framing together.
Why Steel

A Continuous Steel Plane, Not Swiss-Cheese Sheet Metal

Anyone who has mounted anything in a van knows the problem: van bodies are thin, curved, and full of holes, and the solid metal is rarely where you need a fastener. You end up hunting for backing, adding your own, and hoping it holds.

Inertia gives you a continuous steel plane instead. A cabinet, bed, or galley mounts exactly where the design calls for it, into engineered hardpoints rather than wherever the van happens to have metal.

Some framing kits address this issue with wood, using plywood lattices or near-full sheets bonded to the walls. Steel gets the job done with far less wasted space and with fewer long-term issues:

Where We Are

One Build In, and We're Just Getting Started

  • The first build is finished and sold. We designed, fabricated, and installed it in a full ProMaster 159 high-roof owner build, and it is now in the field.
  • Production is in-house. We cut the kits on our own CNC equipment.
  • A complete, step-by-step installation manual ships with every kit. The system was engineered for assembly from the start, working backward from how it goes together to the geometry of each part.
  • A matching floor system is available in tiered materials, from marine-grade plywood to Coosa Bluewater, a structural fiberglass-composite panel that is over 30% lighter than plywood and will not absorb water, rot, or swell.
Next
  • The production version is being installed this July and will be ready in August, with further design refinements to speed up assembly time.
  • It will be shown at van expos this fall, as a finished build that visitors can walk through.
  • Platform roadmap: the 159 high-roof is the first configuration; the same engineering will extend to other ProMaster sizes such as the 136 and 159 extended, and then to the Transit and Sprinter.
We are one build in, with the production version and the expo season next. It is an early-stage product, and for a partner that is the appeal: the chance to establish a position before the category becomes crowded.

A Finished Van, Under One Roof

Inertia is the core of a larger collaboration. Together with our partner network, we can take a bare ProMaster all the way to a finished, road-ready build without the customer having to manage a stack of separate vendors:

Two ways to finish the build: have the kit delivered to your home or workshop and install it yourself, or bundle the full install with Overland Mobile Installs, completed at their Santa Cruz shop or through their nationwide network, depending on project scope.

The customer works through a single point of contact and one build schedule to finish the entire van. For a partner, this means your product joins a pipeline that can finish the whole vehicle around it, not just a single build done alone.

In a bare ProMaster, your product mounts to thin, unpredictable factory sheet metal. Inertia replaces that with a continuous steel plane and engineered hardpoints, giving you a known, repeatable structure to design and mount to.

Made to Fit, the First Time

The ProMaster Structural Interior System is a complete interior of steel framing, machined panels, and trim, engineered as one assembly and indexed to the van. It is priced at $9,995 and typically ships in two to three weeks. The first build is in the field, and the production version will be ready this summer and shown at van expos in the fall.
